This what happened in the Sport of Sailing Globally in the past 7 days:
• A comparison of the Volvo 65 and the IMOCA 60 the two boats contesting the 2021 The Ocean Race. A "must-see"
• The Transatlantic Race start was in newport R.I. and 13 boats crossed it to a difficult seastate. The race is organized by the Royal Yacht Squadron, the New York Yacht Club, the Royal Ocean Racing Club and the Storm Trysail Club
• Australia’s reigning Olympic Laser champion Tom Burton won the Laser Worlds in Miho, Japan this week, while Matt Wearn’s sterling performance in the final two races earned the West Australian second overall; a satisfying result for Australia and the Australian Sailing Team (AST) with the Tokyo 2020 Olympics little more than a year away.
• Team Oman Air supported competed on the five event GC32 Racing Tour with two new crewmen. Returning are the team’s British project manager, mainsail trimmer and tactician Peter Greenhalgh, together with Kiwi headsail trimmer Stewart Dodson and long standing crewman Nasser Al Mashari, in charge of board control. They are joined by Adam Piggott from the UK, who is foil trimmer having previously sailed on a variety of GC32 teams, including Pierre Casiraghi’s Malizia – Yacht Club de Monaco and Red Bull Sailing Team in 2017.
• Matt Wearne (AUS) takes Silver in the 2019 laser World Championships in Japan.
• Day 3 finals of the Hobie 16 Asian Championships in China
• Torvar Mirsky (AUS) is the first invitee to the Star Sailors League Match Racing later this year
