Magneti Marelli and Styer Motors proudly announce the seal of their co-operation to develop new systems for Marine Hybrid propulsion systems.

Magneti Marelli, renown for innovative design solutions in the automotive industry and motorsport, famous for the KERS system for Formula 1, produces permanent magnet electric motors, inverters and all kind of car electronics.

Styer Motors produces a range of Marine Diesel engines and has successfully introduced its parallel HYBRID DRIVE SYSTEM HDS® in 2008 with great attention of the industry and is working now to develop the "new generation" in co-operation with Magneti Marelli.

Magneti Marelli will utilize its experience in electric powertrains and its advanced industrial facilities to develop and produce a most efficient permanent magnet motor / generator together with the power electronics.

Giovanni Gaviani, Business Development head of the Powertrain division says: “In the next decade the electric revolution in the marine propulsion will parallel the one that will happen in the streets. At sea the drivers will want environmental protection and comfort. The main facilitator will be the electrical distribution network already present in every marina (and not yet in our cities). We want to be at the forefront of this revolution.”

Rudolf Mandorfer, CEO of Styer Motors, says: “We are extremely pleased about this cooperation, because it will allow to combine most efficient design solutions in electric drives out of a fully industrialised production with our powertrain systems and light weight Diesel engines. Our aim is to offer this unique propulsion system for most competitive prices and in a very modular system with all our engines 2-, 4- and 6-cylinder from 25 to 225 kW. Our "new generation" parallel Hybrid Drive System should find its way into everybody's boat.”

The new generation STEYR parallel HYBRID DRIVE SYSTEM HDS® is currently presented during the Genoa Boat Show ( Oct.1-9th, 2011 ) in Pavilion C Ground floor booth no. T17.
