Code name - Project Zeus
Technical details
Producer: Cummins MerCruiser (USA)

Code named Project Zeus, Cummins MerCruiser Diesel has announced an all-new, fully integrated, rear facing, tunnel mounted, pod drive propulsion system aimed at simplifying boating while maintaining safety and improving efficiency. For use with Quantum QSB 425HP (313kW) and QSC 500HP (368kW) diesel engines, the assembly is the result of 15 years of testing and research. Due to be introduced next year, it has been designed for enhanced high speed handling, joy-stick controlled better low speed manoeuvrability, improved fuel economy, reduced noise and vibration, ease of installation and low maintenance.
The entire pod installs as a single piece, with minimal alignment requirements, cutting the time to fit in half compared with most traditional propulsion packages. Tests indicate an average 7% improved top speed and 30% fuel saving at higher-end cruising. Gains in efficiency owe much to a decrease in overall drag, the creation of horizontal thrust and the use of counter-rotating propellers.
SmartCraft provides complete monitoring, control and network integration throughout the boat. The network architecture is scalable. The Project Zeus design team claims a series of industry firsts, including station keeping via GPS, steerable drive within a protective tunnel, rear facing counter-rotating propellers and through-hub exhaust on an inboard, integrated trim tabs and a complete water intake system for accessories.

System Features
-Rear facing, tunnel-mounted drive assembly for bigger safety
-Joystick system for effortless docking
-Highly advanced autopilot for station keeping
-Improved high-speed handling and low-speed maneuverability
-Automated, integral hydraulic trim tabs for optimum performance and visibility
-Better fuel economy, longer range, and both higher cruise and top speeds
-Features clean, quiet Quantum engines with thru-hub exhaust
-More power options and greater power density (up to 500 hp)
-Greatly reduced noise and vibration
-Featuring SmartCraft technology which connects a boat’s diverse onboard systems into a single integrated system
-Easy to install and even easier to maintain through integrated components

Our foreign correspondents already test the system and compare it with others, so the results will be announced soon.
