Grand Soleil 50

In the last three years, Grand Soleil sailing boats have been winning numerous challenging and reputable regattas all over Europe. The shipyard uses these occasions to test their boats, since high-demanding race is the best testing ground for checking durability of a material, studying sail concept, determining optimal position and dimensions of a deck equipment, hydrodynamic adjustment of all underwater elements fixed to a hull and calculating perfect shape and size of a keel. Frequently during race, rivals are not only other competitors, but also unpleasant steep and traversal waves, sailing under full sails or under spinnaker with incessantly strong wind, and all that in long periods of time. In a year of such competing, sailing boat undergoes extreme exploitation conditions that ordinary cruisers never experience in a whole lifetime. Basic reference of Grand Soleil 50 is that she unites contemporary elegance of a racing cruiser with maximum level of comfort for her crew.
The brief for the new Grand Soleil 50 is to integrate modern elegance and full of comfort for the crew. The design, accommodation and layout where all developed with this in mind, and the result was a resounding success. The 50´ has the signature of Rolf Vrolijk (designer of ´´Alinghi´´, winner of the last America’s Cup), and is characterized by innovative waterlines, with a narrow bow section and a broad stern to achieve exceptional performance. The ergonomic placement of deck hardware is geared towards both cruising and racing, the recessed traveller on the cockpit floor and the dual helms allow for easy access to the opening transom. In racing mode, the fine-tune end boom sheeting makes finite trimming of the mainsail a simple process. The control lines running under the low profile coachroof and the recessed dodger define a clean and unobstructed deck without clutter and subsequent danger for the crew.
