Beneteau First 35

The First 35 expands the new First family as part of refreshing the entire range. The hull is by Farr Yacht Design, and the spacious, elegant interior is the work of Nauta Design. The new 35 features the same handsomely-thoroughbred lines and sleek coachroof so characteristic of the First 40. The ongoing quest for performance is addressed through confident design decisions, and cruising comfort and pleasure are maximised through a series of innovative solutions.

The Farr Yacht Design hull is optimised for IRC racing and comes with the option of two draughts. The T-section keel gives a deep draught of 2.20 metres, whilst the shallow-draught bulb keel requires just 1.80 metres.

A choice of two zero-overlap rigs (with anodised aluminium masts and double spreaders) are also offered to meet IRC class regulations and make sail handling easier under race conditions. The Genoa sheet tracks are brought inboard for improved (closed) angle of attack and more deck space. The standing rigging is stranded cable as standard, whereas the racing version comes with rod rigging and carbon fibre backstay.

The huge ergonomically-designed cockpit offers high levels of safety with bracing bars, solemounted mainsheet track and removable transom beam (optional). On deck, there are long grab rails either side of the coachroof and passive ventilation system hatches either side of the mast. The (optional) windlass is integrated into the anchor well and the bow roller fitting is removable for racing.

The spacious port stern cabin features a very large berth (1.98 x 1.78 x 1.50 metres) with hanging locker. The heads compartment is to the right of the companionway, and features a shower and 80-litre holding tank as standard. The side-hinged companionway provides full and open access to the engine.

The port side galley is L-shaped for effective bracing at sea. Opposite is the chart table/desk with its folding seat. As part of maximising space and ease of movement, the saloon table is height-adjustable (optional) to provide a dining surface at its higher level and an extra berth or sail stowage at its lower level.

Two symmetrical doors provide access to the forward cabin, which features two hanging lockers and shelves. As well as being a highly practical arrangement, this offers uninterrupted forward vision and increases the sense of space. The owner’s cabin is equipped for comfort with a fabric-covered foam mattress.
