Rinker Boats, a division of Nautic Global Group (NGG), is introducing its new 290 Express Cruiser. The sleek new design was inspired by comments from consumers and dealers based on Rinker’s 280 Express Cruiser. The early introduction of the Rinker 290 is Nautic Global Group’s very first 2013 model year boat.

“We were getting such great feedback from the 280 to help make it even more user friendly,” said Kelly Payne, Rinker’s Director of Design. “I’m convinced that when someone steps on this boat, they will see and feel a much more smooth flow. As you move through the boat from the transom to the companionway, it’s a subtle serpentine flow that feels very organic.”

The 290 is built on the 280’s existing hull, but gets an entirely new deck and cockpit layout. Payne points out that the new design allows for a number of positive changes including an even more integrated cockpit and galley, better access and counterspace, and improved access to the aft stateroom. Changing the angle and rake of the radar arch, all-new upholstery, and added space for a gelcoat color above the sheerline also contribute to the boat’s bold new appearance.

“We brought in the open-cockpit style that’s been such a hit on the Rinker 310 Express Cruiser,” said Rinker Product Manager Michael Kamaloski. “This really gives you a much more functional seating layout and turns the cockpit into a comfortable conversation-pit area with improved access to the refreshment center, food prep and refrigerator. We’ve really fine-tuned the exterior on this boat not only for looks, but also for usability.”

In addition to a comfortable portside “L” Lounge with a sculpted armrest, the 290 features a reclining rear seat (modeled after the 310) and a completely reshaped forward deck to accommodate an integrated sunpad. All options that were available on the 280 remain the same.

“We really took the time to incorporate suggestions from our customers and dealers as we were designing the 290,” said Payne. “We wanted to come up with an exciting and fast-looking new profile and dramatically improve the ergonomics. I think we really hit the mark on this boat.”
