Technical details
Producer: Tek-Dek (UK)

At this year’s Southampton Boat Show, Hampshire based Tek-Dek International Ltd. will launch “Re-Teak”, a new, self-assembly teak deck replacement that comes in a box and can be made and installed by anyone with a reasonable level of practical ability.

Re-Teak represents a significant advance in modern, synthetic decking. Up to now there have been two choices.

The first option is a factory-produced, fully watertight, made-to-measure deck. Just about any size, extremely accurate, professionally built and installed with fully welded seams and joints. This type of deck will give many years of great service and enhance the value of any vessel it is fitted to. However, because they are craftsman built, these decks obviously come with price implications.

The second is the stuck-together products which have not proved particularly successful, with some lasting less than 18 months. One challenge with this type of deck is that, because of the way the joint is made, plasticiser can migrate back into the glued seams causing them to fail and break apart.

Under these circumstances the deck can lift and fail, allowing water to find its way underneath, negating all of the cost and effort of the job and unfortunately often requiring total replacement.

Re-Teak addresses these problems with a self-assembly deck which can be either “caulked” together or easily “welded” using one of the simple-to-operate, hot air guns which is available as part of the kit.

Using the new product, a few basic tools (costing considerably less than a good quality electric drill) and following the comprehensive series of training videos, boat owners should be able to achieve an extremely cost-effective, fully welded, professional looking replacement deck for just about any boat.

Each Re-Teak pack contains 10m of 50mm wide x 6mm deck with unique “tunnel” profile underside and costs £39.95 inc. VAT. This is typically about half the price of a factory produced deck. Additionally the company offer a range of matching welding extrusion, caulking materials, glue and appropriate tools, including a competitively priced hot air welder.

The Re-Teak products unique design and specification is protected in the United Kingdom and Europe with a Registered Design (002384446-0001) and the design has been fully patented in the United States of America (29/496,006)
