Esthec - Shipdeck covering
Technical details
Producer: Bolidt (NL)

Bolidt, the Dutch based manufacturer of high tech thermosetting compounds, has announced the world-wide introduction of its alternative to teak during the METS show. After a two years development programme, the family owned company, which was founded in 1964, claims that Esthec fits every yacht of whatever size due to modern production methods. The Esthec exceeds the technical properties of teak. It is antislip, durable, easy to maintain, available in a number of colours and provides geometrical freedom.

Against deforestation
A choice for Esthec is a choice against deforestation and for Mother Nature’s lungs. Worldwide the supply of teak is running out fast. Every day about 80 football fields of teak forest are cut down. The resulting deforestation leads to erosion, floods, landslides etc. As early as 2006, the Dutch Environmental Defence Association gave warning that in ten years’ time no teak would be left if we did not put a stop to cutting. All the more reason to limit the use of teak as much as possible.
Economical
Prefabricated and made to fit, Esthec is laid much more quickly than any other deck. This shortens the completion time at the shipyard, which is obviously financially attractive. Furthermore, because of computer-controlled processing, the end result is known in advance. So Esthec saves shipyards and owners from incalculable and unpredictable price increases, such as is the case with teak. (Bolidt Synthetic Products & Systems)
